Transmission - Serene and highly professional.

With nine forward gears, this automatic transmission enables efficiency, comfort and dynamism of an entirely new dimension. It impresses with very swift gearshifts and extremely smooth operation. At the same time 9G-TRONIC helps reduce fuel consumption.

The broad transmission ratio range makes a reduction of the engine speed possible.With unchanged excellent handling characteristics, ride comfort is increased and noise production reduced. Low rev speed jumps between the different gears make for high responsiveness and agility.

At the same time 9G-TRONIC impresses with its gentle almost imperceptible gear changes, as would be the case with a continuously variable transmission. As the transmission can jump gears, multiple downshifts are possible for powerful, swift bursts of speed.

Not available for the Mercedes-AMG GLS 63 4MATIC.

With its seven speeds, five drive programmes and ECO start / stop function, this transmission makes extremely dynamic acceleration and the briefest shift times possible on the one hand, and a fuel-saving mode of driving on the other.

Depending on the driving style chosen, the driver has the choice between an efficient-comfortable mode with the drive program "Comfort", a style with sporty ambitions: "Sport", highly sporty: "Sport+" or with the driver's own setting with the "Individual" programme. On iced-over and snow-covered roads the special drive program for slippery roads is recommendable.

Only available for the Mercedes-AMG GLS 63 4MATIC.

With the DIRECT SELECT lever on the steering column you can switch between the transmission settings P, R, N and D, whilst keeping both hands on the steering wheel. With DIRECT SELECT steering wheel gearshift paddles you can change gear manually – in the same way as you can in motorsport.

Comfortable, sporty, winter-optimised, off-road-capable or entirely individual suspension settings can be easily called up using the DYNAMIC SELECT Controller on the centre console. Parameters such as engine, transmission and steering characteristics are modified in accordance with the drive mode chosen.

The balanced and consumption-optimised "Comfort" setting is active by default whenever the ignition is switched on.

The "Sport" drive mode, with a more direct steering characteristic curve, a sportier damping setting and modified shift points, offers greater agility and dynamism. In conjunction with the AIRMATIC package a tauter damper setting and a sportier setting of the suspension, which is lowered by 15 millimetres, are included.

Drive mode "Slippery" delivers optimised handling on iced-over and snow-covered road surfaces. This is made possible by reduced engine and transmission settings which ensure the best possible propulsion. Improved ESP® regulation and increased metering capability of the drive forces contribute towards greater drive stability.

The "Offroad" and "Offroad+" drive programmes (in conjunction with the Offroad Engineering package) offer optimum settings for off-road operation far off the beaten track.

The "Individual" drive program allows the driver to vary individual parameters at will with complete freedom – from the steering to the drivetrain to the suspension.

For the Mercedes-AMG GLS 63 4MATIC, AMG DYNAMIC SELECT is available, featuring the additional drive programme "Sport+" which further enhances the characteristics of the "Sport" drive programme. The suspension is lowered by 25 millimetres and its setting is especially taut.
